THERMAL INSULATION MATERIAL “BFLEX” INCORPORATED IN DEMO BUILDINGS

The LIFE project LIFE_PHIPP will create two demonstration houses in Latvia, which will be insulated with the innovative thermal insulation material made from low quality waste paper and high quality hemp fibre.

The main objective of the demonstration houses is to evaluate the effectiveness of the insulation material using energy efficiency assessment methods. Data will be recorded and collected over a 12-month period.

The demonstration houses are insulated using only waste paper and hemp fibre insulation material in order to determine the thermal performance of the new material. The walls, ceilings and floors of the buildings are insulated with this material.

The first demonstration house has been built and is now operational. The house is located in the Balticfloc production area in Cēsis, Ata Kronvalda Street 40/22-601, where it is open to the general public. The demonstration building is currently planned to house a Balticfloc shop.

The construction and insulation of the second demonstration house is under negotiation. It is planned to be implemented by the timber frame house manufacturer Wendi Modular, incorporating the new insulation material in one of its latest timber frame house projects. The building is planned to be located in Cēsis and will house Wendi Modular customer service office. The demonstration house is expected to be completed by the project handover date. It will also be open to the general public upon prior application.
