INDUSTRIAL SYMBIOSIS TO STRENGTHEN INDUSTRY COOPERATION

 

 

A seminar “Industrial symbiosis to strengthen industry cooperation” was held within the Vidzeme Innovation Week, where the project by CLEANTECH LATVIA. was presented to the listeners.

 

Within the Life project Waste to Resources Latvia – Boosting Regional Sustainability and Circularity, CLEANTECH LATVIA in cooperation with the Riga Technical University, Cesis Municipality and ZAAO will develop and introduce the creation of an Industrial Waster Symbiosis Platform.

 

The creation of the platform includes all the stages, situational analysis – identification of existing cases of symbiosis and possibilities of new symbiosis, mapping of possibilities. Training of undertakings and linking of possibilities in symbiosis. Development of methodologies to identify the opportunity potential and searching for new solutions in acceleration programmes.

Initially, the platform will function in the Vidzeme region, but the plan is to involve all Latvian regions over time.

 

 

Participants of the seminar

  1. Evija Pudane (CLEANTECH LATVIA) – identification and mapping of symbiosis, establishment of cooperation, financing opportunities
  2. Atis Eglins-Eglitis (Cēsu novada dome) – strengthening the role of local government in the implementation of principles of a circular economy
  3. Gints Kukainis (SIA ZAAO) – regional waste management plan and its link to industrial symbiosis
  4. Alise Pizika (RTU Zinātnes un inovāciju centrs) – creation of investment and grant scheme for project development
  5. Jana Simanovska (Ekodizaina kompetences centrs) – company residue analysis methodology and lifecycle assessment

 

 

 

 

Balticfloc with its experience story and a presentation “Industrial symbiosis in Vidzeme, experience story” also participated in the seminar. The company introduced participants and listeners with the products currently produced by the company, which produces by recycling waste paper.

 

The LIFE project LIFE_PHIPP started by the company, within which waste paper of bad quality will be recycled into new, innovative heat insulation material, will be presented to listeners.

 

During the seminar discussion, answers to the questions on the promotion of Circular economy in Latvian business. There was a lot of discussion about the availability of and demand for waste as a raw material in Latvia.

 

At the end of the seminar, Balticfloc and CLEANTECH LATVIA orally agreed on further cooperation with regard to the LIFE project LIFE_PHIPP.
